Columbus Regional Healthcare System
A 9-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) possesses the most modern technology available for the constant monitoring and care of critically ill patients. This special unit is staffed with highly skilled nurses who specialize in caring for the critically ill and will administer close observation to each patient, while catering to their unique condition or situation.
Pediatric Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy
Children with problems such as severe pneumonias or other breathing problems can require this study in order to better treat or further categorize their problem. This service is available for both inpatients as well as outpatients. With a full complement of appropriately sized pediatric bronchoscopes children from the size of premature babies through adolescents can be studied. Local ability to perform bronchoscopy can more appropriately determine who can be cared for here and who might need further specialized referrals.
For care providers who feel they may have a child who would benefit from bronchoscopy you may call our pediatric floor anytime at 910-667-7294 and ask to speak to our on call physician.
Pediatric Sedation Services
Children undergoing lengthy or painful or highly anxious procedures of various sorts typically do not tolerate these to near the degree that an adult would. Having a pediatric sedation service is therefore universal amongst all children’s hospitals to accomplish a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient studies. Pediatric intensivists are trained in their fellowship to perform sedations and commonly are an integral part of these services. All of our pediatric intensivists participate in this service. Like bronchoscopy, this service is offered for inpatient or outpatients.
For care providers who feel they may have a child undergoing an outpatient procedure that might require sedation, call our pediatric floor anytime at 910-667-7294 and ask to speak to our on call physician.
Pediatric PICC Lines
Peripherally inserted central catheters or PICCs for short can be very helpful when a child needs a long term intravenous line to give medications or nutrition. Standard central lines only are reliable for about one week. PICCs can last a month or more and can also allow for home therapy.
For care providers who feel they have a potential candidate for a PICC, call the pediatric floor
at 910-667-7294 and ask to speak to our on call physician.
