Our physicians and nurse practitioners care for children with complex conditions and work collaboratively with community hospitals, pediatricians and family practitioners to serve children throughout the region.
Our neonatology staff consists of 7 Neonatologists and 18 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP). The medical team is trained and skilled in the care of critically ill newborns, and provides neonatal intensive care services for the region.
Critically ill children up to age 18 are cared for 24/7 by the CCS team of highly specialized physicians and nurse practitioners with advanced training in pediatric intensive care.
Our medical team also provides the highest quality newborn care at several hospitals in the region.
As of January 1, 2022, Coastal Children’s Services and Coastal Carolina Neonatology will provide care as a division of UNC Health Children’s.
All of your trusted clinical providers will stay the same, we are just operating under a new umbrella. Your child’s care will remain exceptional and we look forward to serving our community as UNC.

What Our Patients Say
“Dr. Taravath is an excellent listener and always available to answer my questions. I never feel rushed. One of the best experiences we have had. He is very thorough and put in place an agreeable action plan.”
“Dr Loehr is truly a gem. I’ve met many doctors over the years but there are very few as wonderful as him. His demeanor is unlike any other. He treats my children like they are his own family and he’s always been loving and kind every time we have had him. He has always been very patient when listening to my concerns and very thorough when explaining things to me to make sure that I understand completely what is going on and feel confident when I leave. I honestly cannot say enough about him and how much I appreciate the doctor he chooses to be.”
“Susan Boyd is amazing and we would highly recommend her. She does a great job of explaining things and never makes you feel rushed.”
